So the other day that awards show that nobody really cares about but enjoys watching happened. Of course I am talking about the Golden Globes. So if you didn’t watch it or just have like two or three minutes to kill, here are all of the film awards with some added pseudo analysis from myself.
Mad Max: Fury Road
An interesting choice from the Globes there. I thought they would stick to the more awardsy entries Spotlight, Carol or Room. But fair play it does look fantastic.
Cate Blanchett (Carol)
Brie Larson (Room)
Rooney Mara (Carol)
Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn)
Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl)
I thought it would be Cate, but I haven’t yet seen Room so I can’t really comment.
Bryan Cranston (Trumbo)
Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant)
Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs)
Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl)
Will Smith (Concussion)
No surprises here, but will he win that Oscar?
Best film (Musical or Comedy)
The Big Short
Well, I guess it isn’t surprising that this won but was it a comedy? (no)
Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy
Jennifer Lawrence (Joy)
Melissa McCarthy (Spy)
Amy Schumer (Trainwreck)
Maggie Smith (The Lady in the Van)
Lily Tomlin (Grandma)
No surprises here. And while the film is awful Jennifer is fantastic.
Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy
Christian Bale (The Big Short)
Steve Carrell (The Big Short)
Matt Damon (The Martian)
Al Pacino (Danny Collins)
Mark Ruffalo (Infinitely Polar Bear)
Not sure about this one. But then again there is no clear winner in this category. Bale does edge it for me though.
Best Animated Film
The Good Dinosaur
The Peanuts Movie
Shaun the Sheep Movie
Todd Haynes (Carol)
Tom McCarthy (Spotlight)
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (The Revenant)
George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road)
Ridley Scott (The Martian)
No surprises here. I just think the Oscars might go for someone else.
Best Original Score
The Danish Girl
The Hateful Eight
An Excellent decision from the Globes. I have heard three of the above scores (Carol, The Danish Girl and The Hateful Eight) and for me there is literally no contest. It’s a masterpiece of a sountrack.
Best Supporting Actor
Paul Dano (Love and Mercy)
Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation)
Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies)
Michael Shannon (99 Homes)
Sylvester Stallone (Creed)
What the fuck is going on. Now I do actually have an issue with this because it means I actually have to watch Creed, and I don’t really want to.
Best Supporting Actress
Jane Fonda (Youth)
Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight)
Helen Mirren (Trumbo)
Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina)
Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs)
I knew it would be Winslet, but it really should have been Vikander.
If you enjoyed that, just you wait for the Oscars.
