An x-men film that manages to be a prequel, a sequel and a reboot, all at the same time. In the distant future (I think they decided X-men 3 is no longer cannon or something, or something to do with time travel happened or something) in which Professor X, Magneto and few other surviving mutants are being hunted down by an army of those huge metal guys from Thor, you know the ones that shoot fire from their faces. I don’t know if they are actually the same thing, but they are very similar. Anyway, in order to save themselves they have to send Wolverine back in time to warn Mystique not to shoot Peter Dinklage, because if she does then they will steal her DNA and shit will go down.
If you go into this expecting it to make sense, you need to revaluate what you are doing watching an X-men movie. This is a film about time travel and superheroes, it isn’t going to make sense. Once you get over the whole “but in X-men 3 such and such happened, so that can’t be real” thing, which is going to happen quite a lot, you should find this movie pretty enjoyable. It’s fast paced, action packed and the actors all put in very good performances. It does feel a little rushed at times, as there is an awful lot going on, and it does get a little confusing what with all the separate paths and stuff.
Overall this is another fine edition to ongoing X-men franchise, with some more cool mutants like Blink and Quicksilver. I don’t think it is quite as good as First Class, but it is close. It just lacks a certain coherency from the first part of the sequel reboot. Very fun 2 and a bit hours.
